Jamie King, the Author

The Author, Jamie King would like to spread the word about the importance of reading aloud to young children. Her books are the kind of books children want to read. Jamie is very excited about reading and promotes the value and fun of reading to students. She is the mother of five children, two boys, her step-children, and Sarah, her cousin whose mother died of cancer in 2000. All the children are avid readers. Jamie believes that a child that is ready to read is ready to learn.

Book Review Program

Many schools have started a book review program using Stories. The class reviews one story a month. Short stories enable both listeners and readers to "get into" the book. With the series, kids look forward to meeting new and interesting characters in each book. As you will quickly recognize, the simple process of reviewing a book engages the child as an active reader.

Please write:

1. Your name and school.
2. City and State.
3. What grade is writing the reviews.
4. Students can draw pictures of the illustrations.
5. Have students review the book. (See suggestions for book reviews).

The complete collection of books and toys is $95.00.
That's 4 books and 4 toys.
Shipping and handling is included in the price.

Whole Classrooms Get Involved

From 2nd to 5th grade, teachers are sending Jamie the  Story reviews. For example: The 2nd grade class from Iron Horse Elementary sent Jamie all their reviews, which included the students' pictures from " Barry the Bear" book. Jamie wrote a thank you letter with comments to the students. The kids were thrilled to hear from Jamie. What a pleasure for the students to receive recognition for their book reviews from the author herself.

How to Write a Book Review

Suggestions for children.

The most important thing to remember is that book reviews DO NOT give away the ending! If it is a good book, the reader won't want to read it, if she already knows the ending.

At the top of page: Include name of book, your name, school, teacher and grade.

Four steps to follow when you write a Book Review:
( Note: You do not have to answer every question. These are only suggestions to guide your writing.)

1. Write at least 3-4 sentences about the plot:
· What was the story about?
· Who were the main characters?
· What did the main character do in the story?
· Did the main character run into any problems?
· Did the main character have any adventures?
· Who was your favorite character? Why?

2. Your personal experiences
• Could you relate to any of the characters in the story?
• Have you ever done some of the things or felt some of the same things
that the characters did?

3. Your opinion
· How did you like the book?
· What was your favorite part of the book?

4. Your recommendation
· Would you tell a friend about this book?
· Who else do you think would like to read this book?

Kids Book Reviews

Arthur Rubenstein the great pianist was once asked by the young Jean-Paul Tibedet,
should I pay attention to the critics?
Rubenstein replied, "Don't pay attention to the critics, pay attention to your audience.
They will tell you if your doing alright."

Teachers, librarians, principals, parents and most of all kids are our audience.
We value their opinions and comments.
